Gwiizrii Gijiint’aih (Do Your Best) is an annual gathering led by Gwich’in Knowledge Holder Denise McDonald of Inuvik, Northwest Territories that brings together Indigenous youth, Elders, master sewers, beaders, and Knowledge Holders to reconnect with ancestral teachings through art, storytelling, and land-based learning. Rooted in the Gwich’in principle of “doing your best,” the gathering creates a space for participants to share skills, build confidence, and strengthen community ties through traditional practices like beading, sewing, porcupine quillwork, and medicine preparation. Since 2024, participants create personal and collective art pieces that reflect their journeys of reclamation and learning, celebrating resilience, cultural pride, and the enduring strength of intergenerational knowledge.
